Big News: I’m Joining the InterpreMed Team!

B

I have an exciting announcement!  Starting in 2021 I will be a part of InterpreMed.com!  InterpreMed is an AMAZING website of practice resources for medical interpreters that I was fortunate enough to get a sneak peek of.  Let me just say, I was blown away.  It has far more material than my Patreon, and contains in-depth study guides, simultaneous interpreting practice, vocabulary practice, and more.  I’m really excited to bring my colloquial script-writing style and native English-speaking abilities to the table, as well as collaborate with my English-Spanish interpreting colleagues.

That being said, I will no longer be posting new consecutive interpreting practice videos or flash cards to my Patreon.  The founder Nanyi and I have some amazing plans to build upon my existing content to make it bigger and better than ever.  While I’m certainly sad to see my Patreon go, I’m incredibly happy to be a part of something that I truly believe will be huge in the medical interpreting world.

Announcement and InterpreMed Tour

I’ve created a video tour (above) to give you an idea of all of the benefits you’ll gain access to as an InterpreMed member, including:

  • More Languages
InterpreMed has robust online communities for the following languages: Spanish, Arabic, French, and even Japanese!  As InterpreMed grows, more languages are being added.  Fun fact: the Arabic group is even bigger than the Spanish group.
  • Consecutive interpreting practice audios
    (Language-neutral English and English-Spanish)
Consecutive interpreting audios are divided into medical specialties and different difficulty levels, ensuring you can find the script that is the best fit for your skill level.
  • Simultaneous interpreting practice audios
    (English and Spanish)
This is something that hasn’t been made available on my Patreon: detailed simultaneous medical practice audios!  Not only are there different difficulty levels in terms of register and complexity, but also different speeds for both beginner and intermediate simultaneous interpreting practice.
  • Live Interpreting Practice via Zoom
Do you find yourself needing constructive feedback on your interpretations?  InterpreMed has weekly Zoom meetings for a variety of languages!
  • Sight translation practice
I’ve only posted a few medical sight translation practice documents on my website, but sight translations are regularly posted to InterpreMed for members!
  • Medical Vocabulary Exercises
InterpreMed has both English AND Spanish vocabulary exercises to help you improve your understanding of medical terminology, register differences, idioms, slang, and much more.  These exercises include: flashcards, a variety of quizzes and games, low vs. high register grids, and term comparisons.  Not only will you be expanding your vocabulary in your target language, but you’ll be improving your source language vocabulary as well!
  • Symbols & Note-taking Exercises
Nanyi, the founder of InterpreMed, is the queen of consecutive interpreting note-taking.  One of the biggest reasons I wanted to work with her is because she blew me away with her note-taking techniques and her very own symbols glossary.  If you’re a remote interpreter, you already know you have to be adept at note-taking to be successful, so these exercises will give you the tools you need to succeed.  On the other hand, I firmly believe note-taking is one of the most powerful, yet dangerously underutilized, tools in in-person medical interpretation.  If you’re an in-person medical interpreter who doesn’t take notes, this is a great opportunity to nip this bad habit in the bud at the start of the new year!
  • Memory Club
You’ll be able to choose between two levels of membership, one of which includes access to InterpreMed’s memory club.  So what is the memory club?  It’s comprised of weekly classes that focus on advanced note-taking and memory retention techniques.  You’ll have access to all the recordings of weekly meetings (so no worries if you aren’t able to attend the live sessions) as well as a variety of exercises to help you be a better interpreter!

I’m incredibly grateful to my Patrons for all of their support during these difficult times.  Their contributions have helped me not only support myself and my family financially, but kept my spirits up. I’m currently in communication with my subscribers to get their memberships transferred over to InterpreMed.

Join InterpreMed Today!

I decided a long time ago that I only get involved with projects that I can believe in, and InterpreMed fits the bill. It honestly reminds me a lot of the undergraduate interpretation and translation program I completed in college, which I realize isn’t within everyone’s reach financially, especially now after the toll COVID-19 has taken on many of our livelihoods. Whether you’re a seasoned interpreter looking to sharpen your skills or a novice looking to make the transition to live interpreting, InterpreMed has something for every medical interpreter. Join today!
