As I mentioned in a past article, I’ve started creating YouTube videos for interpreters. My previous video was a consecutive interpreting practice script in English, touching on a non-binary person trying to get a mammogram. This video touched on a lot of interesting and important topics, so I thought I’d make a video discussing the issues presented in the script.
Some of the topics discussed in this video are:
- Interpreting pronouns
- Issues with EHR (electronic health record) management systems and gender
- Non-binary and the gender binary
- Issues I ran into with the script (guest speaker: LGBT scientist)
- Insurance coverage issues for non-cisgender people with regards to “gender-specific services”
- The importance of mammograms
- What is top surgery? And how to interpret the concept
- Discrimination against LGBTQ folks in healthcare
While I’m making this discussion video public because of the important issues touched on, all future discussion videos will be exclusive content for my Patreon subscribers. In addition, I will continue to be posting consecutive interpreting practice script videos at least once a week, but I will be making some of those videos available only to my subscribers on Patreon. In other words: I will continue to be posting free educational content, but there will also be additional content available for my Patreon subscribers!
